News:
Signs are
starting to appear that Apple may be prepping for a revision of
their Mac laptops in the near future. Reports say that Apple has
increased its order of "notebook-use printed circuit boards" by 20%
this quarter.
Meanwhile, Apple has notified Best Buy that they would have limited
MacBook shipments over the next two weeks. While retail inventories
alone aren't typically an accurate predictor of Apple product
refreshes, combined with these other reports it may be more
suggestive.
Apple has been rumored to be working on new aluminum MacBook Pro
designs that will adopt features of the current iMac and MacBook
Air. Intel's recent Montevina introduction also provides Apple with
suitable processor upgrades to power new
laptops.

Speed Up Your Mac
Get more RAM.
A mac running 2 GB of RAM over one running 1 GB of RAM will be
noticeably quicker.
Upgrade to a SSD. A SSD is quicker at accessing data than a
mechanical drive and is also less prone to crashing.
Update your apps. Keeping the lastest version of apps on your mac
will insure your apps are running like they should with your
current version of OSX.
See what programs are loading up at login. To remove and checks
apps go into the Accounts option in System Preferences.
Over time you need to delete your caches as they can become large
in size and slow down the apps accessing them. This is done from,
in Finder, /Library/Caches. Simply delete all of them or the single
apps that you think are causing you trouble.
Be sure and check Disk Permissions and Disk Health. If you open
Disk Utilities under /Applications/Utilities you can run both
programs. Disk Permissions is designed to make sure the correct
applications and files have the correct permissions. Disk Health is
to make sure your hard drive runs as well as possible. As well as
this it also make sure it find and secures any corrupt disk
sectors.
Uninstalling apps you never run could save yourself both disk space
and the chance that you uninstall an application that may be
running in the bakground.
Uninstall any menu bar items you don't need.
Also disable dashboard if you don't use it. Although dashboard
doesn’t run until you open it. If you do open it, it then becomes
difficult to close it once as it is open. You can download a free
program to disable and enable dashboard HERE

Listener Sam Olson writes in about his ipod not connecting and syncing with the new itunes 7.7 update.
In some cases, this issue can be temporarily eliminated by deleting the following plist files from ~/Library/Preferences/ (your user library preferences folder):
* com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
* com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
*
com.apple.iTunes.plist
In addition, try unplugging your iPod from your system before launching iTunes for the first time. Once iTunes is launched, plug your ipod in.

Hiding Folders:
Do you need to hide some folders on your mac
from prying eyes? There are two ways to do this, you can use the
Terminal or rename the folder. You can rename the folder and then
add a dot (.) in front of the folder. This will make it
hidden.
You can also use the Terminal to hide folders. Simply open up
terminal and type the following:
mkdir /Path/To/Folder/You/Want/To/Hide/.folder
The folder will be created. You can then view the hidden folder by
opening up Finder. Pressing Command + Shift + G or going to Go >
Go To Folder. A normal Finder will appear in which you can access
your folder, of course you have to remember the name of the hidden
folder to access it so make sure and remember the name of it.
If you want to delete this folder. In Terminal type:
rm -rf /Path/To/Folder/You/Want/To/Hide/.folder
The folder will then be
deleted.

Whats Keeping Me?:
Did you ever have the problem where you can’t empty the Trash or eject a disk because something is preventing you? Usually the reason is because some application has a file open, and thus you can’t get rid of the disk or trash the file. What’s Keeping Me? will identify the application that is preventing you from accomplishing your task. You can then use What's Keeping Me? to quit the problem application (or kill it if needed). What’s Keeping Me? is simple to use. Just type in the name of the item you want to get rid of and hit the return key to begin your search. If you are trying to empty the trash then type the file name you can’t empty into the search field. If you can’t eject a disk then type the disk name into the search field. Searching takes some time, but when finished the application which is keeping the item alive will be identified. Select the item in the table and you can quit or kill the application. After quitting or killing the application you can then get rid of your problem!
