Michelle's mac tip of the week:
Importing Audio loops into Garageband.
Problems & Solutions:
Problem #1:
Forgot your administrator password?
Solution #1:
1. Start up from a Mac OS X
Install CD (one whose version is closest the the version of Mac OS
X installed). You should first disable Open Firmware password
protection, if it is enabled. Hold the C key as the computer
starts.
2. Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu
in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger). Tip: If you don't see this menu or menu
choice, you're probably not started from the CD yet.
3. Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
4. Set the user name of your original administrator account.
Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is
actually a reference to the root user. Do not confuse it with a
normal administrator account.
5. Enter a new password.
6. Click
Save.
Problem #2:
Have you ever got this message? "The disk image you are opening may be damaged and could damage your system. Are you sure you want to open this disk image?"
Solution #2:
If you have another copy of the files that are on the affected disk image.
Make a new image in Disk Utility and copy the original files to the new image. Once done you can discard the original, affected image. Be sure and open the new image, open Disk Utility, and repair the new image. Continue to repair until no issues are found.
If you have no other copy of the files on the affected disk image.
Try repairing the directory structure of your disk images with Disk Utility. To do this make a copy of the affected image in finder by selecting the image in finder and choosing file then duplicate. Then open the copied image file in finder which will mount the new image. Then go to disk utility and select the image icon on the left side of the window. Select repair disk and let your system check the image for errors and fix them, be sure and run the repair several times until it shows no more errors.

News:
Frontrow update is now available for your macbook, it provides for better compatibility with iphoto.
Apple may be planning to offer a retractable set of USB, FireWire, Ethernet, and other connections on future notebooks to decrease the overall size of its portables. Apple's "Connection System" patent filing shows a series of I/O ports on the rear of a laptop that close to conserve space but flip down to provide access when needed. The patent also entertains the possibility of allowing each port to open and close individually, providing access to only those connections that are needed at any given time. Apple is aiming to conserve space by recessing the various connections into the body of the laptop, which would also allow the company to create a tapered edge around the entire system when all ports were in their dormant positions. Apple is still forecasted to release its ultra portable laptop in 2008.

Michelle's mac tip of the week: Turning on menu bar applications.
Problem #1: Macbook internet speeds slow after switching ISP's.
Solution #1:
Make sure that you do not have any DNS servers listed in your
network preference pane. You might have an outdated DNS server
address listed from a previous ISP.
Open "system preferences", select "network, select your airport
connection, select the "TCP/IP" tab, and look at the DNS server
field. Delete anything in that field. Alternatively you can go to
"opendns.com" and use their reliably fast and secure DNS
servers.
Problem #2: Is that startup chime sound annoying you and you wanna mute it?
Solution #2: Well natively OS X has no setting to turn off the chime but there is a small free program that will do this for you. Its called StartupSound.prefPane and once installed it will allow you to not only mute the chime at startup but also adjust the volume of it so its not as loud.

Apple is allowing Ilife 08 buyers to download imovie hd 6 for free to use instead of imovie 08. This is due to the fact that imovie 08 does not include a timeline for more detailed movie editing.

Problem #1: How can you prevent files or folders from being accidentally deleted?

Problem #1: If you have ever hooked up an external monitor to your macbooks mini-dvi connection and worked on the external monitor as an extension to your dekstop then you might be wondering how to use application toolbars when working on the external monitor.
Solution #1: You just need to make sure that the external monitor is set as your primary monitor by going to system preferences, and then display. There you will see both screens on a window with one having the dock, just drag the one with the dock over to the external monitor and then it will be your primary monitor.
Problem #2: If you have an apple TV and a macbook you may have noticed that the remote that comes with either unit will somtimes cause interference with each other.
Solution
#2:
1. Get extra close to your Mac (about 3 or 4 inches away).
2. Point the remote at the Mac.
3. Press and hold the Menu and Next/Fast-forward buttons
simultaneously on the remote for 5
seconds.
